Then and Now: A Journey Through Time in Esztergom

More than one hundred vintage vehicles, a police helicopter and motorboat, the last Mercedes of János Kádár, as well as the latest Suzuki models. On 25-26 April 2026, Esztergom comes alive again as the Then and Now Vehicle Expo is held for the ninth time in the heart of the city, on the Nagy Duna Sétány at the Rugby Club event area. This year's two-day event is all about vehicles once again, showcasing not only classic vintage cars and motorcycles, but also modern two- and four-wheeled vehicles.

As in previous years, the popular event series will evoke the spirit of past eras while also presenting the modern world to visitors. The main sponsor of the event, Magyar Suzuki Corporation, will showcase the limited-edition S-CROSS and Vitara models, as well as the brand’s first fully electric vehicle, the eVITARA. The company will also welcome visitors with interactive activities and prize games.

One of the highlights of the event will be the police demonstration, where visitors can get up close with a police helicopter, motorboat, motorcycle and patrol car, and even witness a live law enforcement demonstration. The line-up of vehicle attractions does not end there though: scale models of historic aircraft designed in Esztergom will also be on display, along with the last Mercedes of former Hungarian Prime Minister János Kádár. In addition, five iconic Esztergom families will be introduced, whom visitors can meet in person in authentically furnished period rooms.

The exhibition will be complemented by musical performances, sports programmes and additional events, making it an ideal outing for all age groups. The Then and Now Vehicle Expo is open to the public free of charge on Saturday, 25 April from 10:00am to 8:00pm, and on Sunday, 26 April from 10:00am to 6:00pm at the Nagy Duna Sétány, in the Rugby Club event area.

The traditional lantern boat parade on the Little Danube will also take place this year on 30 April starting at 8:45pm. After sunset, beautifully decorated installations set afloat on the water will offer a beautiful sight to the crowd gathered along the riverbank. The evening will conclude with a concert by Peter Šrámek at 10:00pm.
