Programs for the whole family – Then and Now Vehicle Expo

After a two-year hiatus the „Then and Now Vehicle Expo” will be held for the fifth time in Esztergom on April 30 and May 1, where past and present cars, motorcycles, horse-drawn carriages, bicycles and boat specialties will be exhibited. At the country’s largest thematic, free vehicle exhibition, in addition to family programs and various styles of concerts, visitors can meet the drivers participating in the Dakar Rally and can admire the lantern water carnival on the Little Danube.

Many years ago, the organizers wanted to create an internationally high-level event that would be an experience and fun weekend program for the whole family. It is always a unique feeling when we can see the masterpieces of the past together with the future ones, it is no coincidence that the „Then and Now Vehicle Expo” has now become one of the most popular and largest themed vehicle exhibitions in the country. Last held in 2019, the more than 300 vehicles were admired by nearly 16,000 visitors.

The exhibition features a multitude of vehicles from 1900 to the present days. Horse-drawn carriages, vintage motorcycles, passenger cars, nautical items and bicycles will also be on display. As in previous years, the primary consideration was also in this year to emphasize the engineering innovations of the given age. In addition, vehicles of the event’s naming sponsor, Suzuki – cars, motorcycles, and marine engines – will also be unveiled.

Dance and sports performances, a traffic safety experience program, concerts, and environmental programs for children await those interested in the event, which will be held between April 30 and May 1. Among the exhibitors are The Hungarian Museum of Science, Technology and Transport, and the Maritime History Museum in Zebegény. We can find among the specialties a Pannonia motorcycle, a Chevrolet Impala, and an MRAP military vehicle that also appeared in the American action movie Die Hard 5 starring Bruce Willis. A special Dakar Rally public meeting will be held on Saturday: with the moderation of Zoltán Szujó, visitors can see the Dakar team’s truck and car, as well as they can take part in a public meeting with Balázs Szalay, László Bunkóczi and Emanuel Gyenes.

The co-event of the expo, the lantern water carnival on Saturday evening, will take place on the Little Danube from 8 pm. At the one-and-a-half-hour event, boats illuminated with colored lights will march again from the foot of St. Elizabeth’s Bridge to the Bottyán Bridge. DJ Dominique will entertain the audience from the terrace in front of the Esztergom Music School. Organizers expect at least 20 major installations and the launch of 30 small boats.
