Péter Szijjártó visited Magyar Suzuki

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade made a discussion with the new managing director about the plans of the Esztergom plant

30 years ago the investment was an economic risk, nowadays Magyar Suzuki Corporation has become one of the basic pillars of the domestic economy. On the occasion of the illustrious anniversary and the decades of successful cooperation Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Pál Völner, Minister of State and Deputy Minister; Róbert Ésik, president and CEO of Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA); and Ádám Hernádi, mayor of Esztergom visited the car manufacturer in Esztergom. The guests were discussing the future of the company and the domestic car industry with Masato Atsumi, the managing director of Magyar Suzuki, who was appointed two months ago.

The success story of Magyar Suzuki Corporation and the Hungarian car manufacture, equal in age, began 3 decades ago. After a 50-year hiatus, domestic car manufacture has revived thanks to Suzuki Motor Corporation’s investment in Hungary. The key to Magyar Suzuki’s business results from the very beginning is close cooperation with stakeholders. The company’s network of employees, suppliers, partners, dealers, and service, approximately 10,000 people, creates and forms the history of the company, since 2012 in strategic partnership with the current government. Today, car manufacture gives 5-6 percent of the country’s GDP. Automotive suppliers add an additional 8-9 percent to gross domestic product . The sector has strategically important for the Hungarian economy, and Magyar Suzuki plays a significant role in it.

„It was worth for our parent company believing in the foundation of Magyar Suzuki, which remained unbroken even when more difficult times passed. In 30 years, we have given the world more than 3.6 million cars. The difference between our first-generation Swift and Vitara represents the path our company has taken since its inception, continually adapting to customer needs and market trends. Today, in Esztergom we only manufacture hybrid models for the European Union markets,” summed up at the meeting Masato Atsumi, the new managing director of Magyar Suzuki Corporation the path taken by the company. „We are committed to a greener future in which we believe that hybrid propulsion will continue to play a key role in the market for 10 years. By 2050, the Suzuki Group would like to represent itself everywhere in the world with carbon-neutral plants and product portfolio, and we have also started to go this direction at Magyar Suzuki. As always since our foundation, we would like to continue this path with our partners and suppliers, supporting each other.” – Shared the managing director his plans relating to the company’s future.

Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade commented the meeting – “Following the change of regime, Magyar Suzuki was one of the first major foreign companies to put trust in the transforming Hungary, in Hungarian people. The story of the last 30 years is clearly a success story for Magyar Suzuki. Today, the company employs about 2,800 people here in Esztergom and, together with its suppliers, provides a livelihood for more than 10,000 families.”

Magyar Suzuki has also developed its well-known Hungarian supplier network: only in the past few years it has provided 9 trainings to a total number of 145 suppliers in cooperation with the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency.
