Magyar Suzuki Corporation Turns 35

Magyar Suzuki Corporation has reached a significant milestone: the Esztergom-based company was established 35 years ago, when the foundation stone of the plant was laid. At the Suzuki Group’s only production facility in Europe, seven iconic models have been manufactured over the decades, while the company has become one of the country’s key economic players.

After a 50-year hiatus, passenger car manufacturing in Hungary was revived in 1991, when Suzuki Motor Corporation, the Hungarian government, Itochu and the World Bank established Magyar Suzuki. The Japanese created a world-class plant in Hungary with full-scale manufacturing capabilities. The company began production in 1992 with the mass production of Suzuki Swift models. Cars produced here became accessible to everyone, and Hungarians quickly grew fond of Suzukis, or as they called them, “our car”. Over 35 years, a total of seven different models have been produced in Esztergom: in addition to the Swift, the Wagon R+, Ignis, SX4, Splash, SX4 S-CROSS and the Vitara. In 2024, the 4 millionth Suzuki model rolled off the Hungarian production line. Prioritising sustainable mobility, Magyar Suzuki has sold models for the European markets exclusively with hybrid powertrains since 2020. Currently, the Vitara and S-CROSS models are produced in Esztergom. The manufacturing company works with a stable, reliable and high-quality supplier network. It has cooperated with many of its Hungarian partners since the start of mass production.

High professional competence and expertise
Magyar Suzuki is a key player in the automotive manufacturing market in terms of production capacity and employer status. It continuously develops its plant, supporting digitalisation, efficiency improvements, the maximum utilisation of current capacity, the flexible service of future demands, and the achievement of carbon-neutral operations. Since its establishment, Suzuki has invested more than EUR 2 billion in Hungary.
High-level skills and expertise have been accumulated in Esztergom over the past 35 years, primarily in engineering, logistics and IT.

Stable economic player in Hungary
As one of the country’s leading industrial companies, it consistently ranks among the TOP20 large companies in Hungary based on revenue. Thanks to its partners, suppliers and nationwide network of 78 authorised dealers, it contributes to the livelihoods of approximately 10,000 people. Suzuki models manufactured in Esztergom and imported models are among the most popular cars in Hungary for both private consumers and fleet buyers. Over the decades, the company has ranked first on the Hungarian new passenger car sales list a total of 22 times. In addition to manufacturing vehicles for the domestic market and exporting to more than 100 countries worldwide, the company is also engaged in the sale of imported Suzuki passenger cars, motorcycles and outboard engines.

A sustainable future
Aligned with the ambitions of its parent company – Suzuki aims to achieve carbon neutrality worldwide in both manufacturing and models by 2050 – Magyar Suzuki places strong emphasis on sustainable operations and production, supported by its own solar power park and heat pumps.

As a responsible company and cooperative partner, Magyar Suzuki has participated in long-term, value-adding local and national initiatives to support society, the environment and the economy since its foundation. It pays special attention to supporting local education, cultural and sports life, as well as road safety at the national level.

Valued employees, loyal collaborations
As a caring employer, it respects and values all its employees, who in turn are loyal: more than half of its workforce has been with the company for at least 10 years, and 25 employees have been strengthening the community since the very beginning, for 35 years. As one of the region’s largest employers, it places special emphasis on supporting the next generation. In response to the challenges of new technologies, digitalisation and constantly changing demands, it places strong focus on training future professionals. Within the framework of the Suzuki Academy, a forward-looking umbrella training programme has been created that enables knowledge sharing within the company and the group, responds to labour market challenges, and builds bridges between generations and cultures. It contributes to stable company operations and production, as well as to finding and retaining the right workforce. As part of the programme, the Maintenance Academy strengthens professional foundations, the Global Talent Management Programme contributes to building a knowledge network, while the Leadership Academy supports a strong and stable leadership base. In the dual education programme launched in 2023, 37 students are already studying at the Suzuki Training Centre. Half of the graduates so far have been employed by Magyar Suzuki.
