500,000th hybrid Suzuki rolls off production line in Esztergom
Magyar Suzuki began focusing on sustainable driving when it transitioned to manufacturing hybrid models at the end of 2019. Today, the 500,000th hybrid model rolled off the production line at the Esztergom factory – a canyon brown, GLX, AllGrip all-wheel-drive, automatic S-CROSS with sunroof. Market data reveals strong global demand for the hybrid Vitara and S-CROSS models produced in Hungary, and interest remains steady.
Although the mass production of hybrid models, including the various Vitara and S-CROSS models, began at the end of 2019 at Magyar Suzuki’s Esztergom plant, this was preceded by nearly a year of preparation and required investments worth several million euros. The biggest challenge was creating a safe work environment, as the workstations and the vehicle assembly line needed to be designed to ensure that neither employees nor vehicle diagnostics were compromised. Mapping out and implementing these adjustments was the responsibility of the Hungarian engineers working in the assembly plant. Another critical factor was the safe storage, transport and installation of the batteries – and the staff involved received specialised training to meet this requirement.
Exclusively hybrid models for EU markets
Since 2020 Magyar Suzuki has only been producing hybrid models for the markets of the European Union. The goal set back then by the Esztergom-based company has been achieved, as the introduction of hybrid technology has strengthened the car manufacturer’s position both in the country and in the region. The Vitara and S-CROSS models lead the sales list for passenger cars in Hungary by a wide margin, and they play a significant role in ensuring that Magyar Suzuki consistently secures the market-leading position.
Market continues to demand hybrids
The completion of Magyar Suzuki’s 500,000th hybrid model also demonstrates the market trend showing consistently strong interest in energy-efficient and sustainable cars. At the same time, value for money is also an important factor for customers. The low-maintenance yet dynamic hybrid Suzukis made in Esztergom are exported to many parts of the world. The canyon brown, GLX, AllGrip all-wheel-drive, automatic S-CROSS with a sunroof, completed on 30 January, will be handed over to its new owner in France.
